Instructions | |||
If using coin images instead of real coins, print them on white cardstock and cut them out.
1. | Cut out the cross pattern and trace it onto the styrofoam, cardboard, or gold cardstock.
2. | Use a knife to cut the pattern from styrofoam, or a scissor to cut through cardboard or cardstock.
3. | If using styrofoam or cardboard, spray paint the cross. This is best done outside or in a very well-ventilated area! Let the paint dry thoroughly.
4. | Place nickels or quarters at the four corners of the cross as shown in image at the top of this page. Place a small drop of glue on the back of each coin and glue into place.
5. | Arrange the pennies in rows to fill the cross, then place a small drop of glue on the back of each and glue into place.
6. | Use duct tape to attach the string to the back of the cross to make a hanger.
Variation: You can add another layer of coins to completely cover the cross.
How to clean coins: Place coins in bowl large enough so the coins are only one layer deep and fill with cold water. Swish them around with your fingers. Drain the water and add white vinegar. Let the coins sit for a few minutes until bright and clean. |
