WHAT YOU NEED
- Small to medium glass jar (for example, baby food or salsa jars)
- A variety of colored tissue paper
- 3/4" ribbon cut in 8" length
- glitter/glitter glue pens/glitter pens
- tea candle
plus
- yogurt-size plastic container (clean)
- scissors
- white craft glue
- Kitchen sponge, cut into 1 1/2" squares
- clothes pin
- waxed paper
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
1. Write Let Your Light Shine! on the strip of ribbon with a glitter pen.
2. Cut tissue paper into small pieces. 3. Fill about half of the plastic container with glue, add water so that the container is about 3/4 full of liquid. Mix well. 4. Use the clothes pin to make a handle for a sponge square. Dip sponge into the glue and "paint" the sides of the jar thoroughly. 5. Cover the jar with different colored pieces of tissue paper. Paper can overlap, but be careful not to layer the paper so that light can't shine through. 6. While the tissue paper is still wet, roll the jar in glitter that has been spread onto waxed paper or draw a design using a glitter applicator. 7. Adjust the ribbon length to the size of the jar. Make a small slit in the ribbon on the end where you started writing. Pull the other end of the ribbon through the slit. Depending on the size of jar used, you may want to cut the ribbon to a better length. 8. When the paper is dry, put a bead of glue all around the mouth of the jar. Fit the ribbon around the mouth of the jar and tighten into place. 9. Put a tea candle inside the jar. Have an adult light the candle and see how your light shines! | |
