Parable of the Lamp
| Jesus used stories (called parables) to teach people about God and living a good life. Jesus is often called the "Light of the World" because he came to overcome the darkness in people's souls. In the Parable of the Lamp, Jesus tells us that each of us can also help to light the world! Jesus' life and teachings help us understand and live the life God wants for us. God wants you to be who you are, and God will help you be the best person you can be. By being a good friend, helping your parents, and being polite and considerate of others, you are showing others how your faith in God works in your life. The way you act, more than anything you can say, helps to spread Jesus' light in the world. When you make mistakes (and people always do) it is important to ask for forgiveness, do what you can to make things right again, and not be afraid. That is the hardest part of being a Christian, and Jesus will always help you find the courage to do the right thing in the worst times. Our faith in God helps us overcome hard times, mistakes, and sadness. Don't pretend to be someone you are not, or be ashamed of who you are. Your light shines brightest when there is nothing to hide! Let your light shine! |
