Samuel is Called to Serve God
| | We learned about Samuel's birth in the story of Hannah. As Samuel grew, Eli taught him all about serving the Lord. Unfortunately, Eli and his sons started to do selfish and unjust things. God warned Eli that he and his sons had to change, but they did not. One night Samuel woke up to a voice calling him. He thought it was Eli. He went to Eli's room and woke him up - more than once - which didn't make Eli very happy. Eli had not been calling out Samuel's name. It was God! God then talked to Samuel and told him that Eli's time was almost over and he would be judged for the way he had been living. The next morning, Samuel was troubled by what he had heard. Eli told him that God was right, and he and his sons had not done things the right way. Eli knew that Samuel would follow him into the role of high priest. |
