"All the Stars in the Sky" Craft Project

God promised Abraham that he would have as many descendents as there are stars in the sky.  After hundreds of generations, that is pretty close to being true.

In this project, make stars of your family!  Start with your great-grandparents, grandparents or parents, and make a star for each if their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

See  how many stars your family has in the sky!

You will need:

  • Construction paper ("star colors" - yellow, white, gold, etc.)
  • 1 ot 2 pieces of cardboard (size of cardboard determines the size of your "sky")
  • sky blue paint
  • Heavy-duty needle & thread
  • optional - pictures of your family members
  • optional - string to hang your 'sky'
                   plus

  • scissors
  • glue
  • tape
  • marker (or stick-on lettering)

Instructions
1.Paint one side of the cardboard blue.   (if you will hang your sky with a string, paint one side of a second piece of cardboard of equal size)
2.Watch the video below to make stars out of construction paper. In the sample shown above, a different color was used for the stars for each family generation.
 For each star:
 a.  Write or use stick-on letters to spell the name of family members on both sides of their stars.  If available, trim and glue their picture on their stars, too.
 b.  Thread a needle with about 18" of thread. Tie the two ends together in a knot.  Push the needle & thread through the top of the star.   Thread the needle back through the thread loop and tighten. Trim thread.
 c.   Push the needle through the painted side (bottom) of the cardboard.  Tape the thread down on the unpainted side (top) and trim thread.
If the sky will be hung with string;
3.Cut a piece of string twice as long as the width of your sky.  Tape  one end of the string to each of longer sides of your sky.
4.Put glue all around the edge of the unpainted side (top) of your sky. Glue a second piece of cardboard (blue side up) to the first one.  Be sure that only the taped ends of the string are under the second piece of cardboard! When the glue has had a chance to dry, hang up your sky.
If the sky will be taped to the ceiling, underside of a cabinet, etc:
3.Place double-stick tape (3-M restickable strips suggested) on each side of the unpainted top of the sky and press against the surface.
