As Samuel had predicted, although Saul started out being faithful and grateful to God, power and wealth eventually made King Saul think he did not need to follow God. God removed Saul from his favor and told Samuel to search out and anoint the next King of Israel. God sent Samuel to the house of Jesse in Bethlehem, and directed him to anoint Jesse's youngest son David. King Saul called the young shepherd boy David into his service at the palace in Jerusalem. Generations later, a baby would be born in Bethlehem of David's lineage. That baby was Jesus! |
