The Story of Judas
Judas was one of the twelve disciples. He acted as "treasurer" of the group, We don't know why exactly he decided to betray Jesus, most people believe it was because he was because he loved money. The disciples heard there was a plot to kill Jesus, and Judas went to the high priests and asked what they would pay him to betray Jesus. They offered Judas thirty pieces of silver. At the Last Supper, Jesus knew what was going to happen. He told his Apostles that one of them would betray him. Jesus said that the traitor would be better off if he had never been born. After the supper, Jesus asked the disciples to go to the Mount of Olives and pray with him. Instead, Judas went to the priests and told them where Jesus was. Judas returned to the Mount of Olives with a group of soldiers. To identify Jesus, Judas greeted him by kissing him on the cheek. The soldiers quickly arrested Jesus. When Jesus was condemned to death, Judas was filled with regret. He went to the priests and said that he had betrayed an innocent man. The priests didn't care - they had got what they wanted! Judas tried to give the money back, but they would not take it. He threw the bag of coins on the floor and ran away. Overwhelmed with guilt and grief, Judas hanged himself. |
