Thanksgiving and the Bible
Always and in Everything, Give Thanks!
Thanksgiving is an American national holiday. However, giving thanks is central
to our Lutheran faith, as shown in the following Bible verses:
Ephesians 5:20
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ
Psalm 95
1 O come, let us sing for joy to the Lord, Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
3 For the Lord is a great God And a great King above all gods
Psalm 100
1 Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing.
3 Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
5 For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting
And His faithfulness to all generations.
