John Olai Jensen Hougen, ordained in 1882. Norwegian Synod, 1882-1889, Antimissouri, 1889-1890, United Norwegian Lutheran Church, 1890-current.

Born at Kninnherred, North Søndhordland, Bergen on March 6, 1857.  His parents were Jens Johannesen H. and Kirstine (nee Olsen).

He immigrated in 1857 and attended Luther College from 1871-1879 and Luther Seminary from 1879-1881. 

Pastor at Fargo ND 1882-1892; Canton Sd, 1892-1894; Manitowoc WI, 1894-1898; Decorah IA, 1898-1907; Tacoma WA, 1907-current.

He has written articles published in the "Decorah Posten, "  "Lutheraneren, "  and many other publications.  "17th of  May and 7th of June, 1814-1905" was published in 1906.

He married Thrine Christine Johnsen in 1882. After her death in 1891, he married Anna Elena Stockstad in 1891.  She died in 1915.

Haugen was called as pastor of Our Saviour's when the congregation left the Norwegian Synod over the doctrine of election.  During his tenure, Moland and Our Savior's merged to create Concordia.  He was the featured speaker at Concordia's 50th anniversary celebration in 1924.  He died January 7, 1927 in Lane County, Oregon.
